All Medicare-eligible consultations are bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card. Some items, including privately purchased vaccines and consumables, attract a fee.
A pre-employment medical checks whether you can safely do a specific job. In the Upper Hunter that often means hearing, lung function and physical capacity — and it means bringing the right paperwork.
We are a bulk billing practice — standard GP consultations are bulk billed with a valid Medicare card. Work and pre-employment medicals are requested by a third party, so they are privately billed and quoted before you book.A pre-employment medical is not a general health check. It assesses whether you can safely perform the tasks of a particular role, against the requirements the employer has set. Two people can be perfectly healthy and one still be unsuitable for a particular job.
What is assessed varies by role, but commonly includes height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, lung function, musculoskeletal assessment, and a urine sample. Some roles require drug and alcohol screening; some require chest imaging. The employer's requirements determine the content.
It is requested by a third party rather than being care for your health, so Medicare does not fund it. The fee is quoted before you book.
The employer receives an opinion about your fitness for the role, not your full medical history. Anything found that is your own health matter is discussed with you.
It gets explained to you, and where it is fixable it becomes a plan. Finding treatable things is one of the genuine benefits of these assessments.
